Michelham Priory

Beauty and history perfectly combine in the magnificent Michelham Priory, a stunning wedding location in the heart of the Sussex countryside.

I am hugely proud of being an approved photographer to this Listed historic house and its superb gardens. Elegance, drama and charm are here in abundance, instantly elevating every wedding.

There is even a striking, Elizabethan barn. I confess that one of my favourite wedding shots of all time – and rightly taking pride of place on my studio walls – is my shot of a just married couple standing by the huge door to the Prior’s Chamber. The significance of this life-changing moment is clearly captured for all to see in that one image.

Magnificent, stately and compelling

Michelham Priory perfectly complements the gravitas of a wedding. This is a former priory after all. It is magnificent, stately and compelling, guaranteeing shots that are dramatic and story-telling in an instant.

However, my deep knowledge and understanding of the Priory and its grounds gives my clients confidence that I will know the ideal location for that perfect shot. This could be well away from the Priory itself; maybe a calm, dappled spot in the heart of the garden, which stretches across seven acres of gloriousness? Or perhaps a quiet and peaceful moment on a secret, secluded wooden bridge?

With 800 years of history in the Priory, nestled at the foot of the South Downs but only 60 miles from London, there is also an array of features in the Prior’s Chamber. Stained glass windows, tapestries and period furniture can be accentuated to enhance all of my images. Even the Priory’s warm, well-worn stonework makes for a striking backdrop. Or perhaps the 15th century gatehouse is the perfect place to start a wedding portfolio, highlighting a couple’s confidence as they start their life journey together?

The Elizabethan Barn

As the Priory is enclosed by a Moat, the longest medieval moat in England, water always brings an added dimension to every Michelham wedding portfolio. The reflections always give an ethereal feel – elevating a moment to something more spiritual. Perfect for a wedding.

The neighbouring Elizabethan Barn, with its 600-year-old wooden beams and located on the edge of the moat, delivers drama and style of its own. It also offers the perfect venue to entertain a larger number of family and friends – both inside and out – but successfully continues the same dramatic theme that the Priory Chamber but in a lighter and more relaxed hue.

I believe my role as your wedding photographer is to capture all the light and shade of your wedding day, highlighting those quieter, more reflective moments between bride and groom before expanding out to the more informal, fun shots with friends and family. So, with so much on offer in one space Michelham Priory is the ideal partner for me to deliver the perfect day for my clients and their guests.
